Nestled romantically on the banks of the Flat River, the River Edge Bed & Breakfast and Gathering Place offers great vistas of the river and the surrounding forest.

Owned by Brenda and Bill Schreur, the newest bed & breakfast in town, is a welcoming and relaxing place near  Grand Rapids. It adds to the portfolio of existing bed and breakfasts in Lowell including the Main Street Inn and Witt’s Inn.

“We see deer all the time,” said Brenda. “You’ve come home here.”

Most recently, the owners added a pavilion that seats  150 people. The pavilion has ceiling fans and special lighting for the dance floor and plug-ins for DJ. The head table has double flood lights.

The pavilion has accessible bathrooms and parking on both sides of the property.

“It’s ideal for any family get together, for weddings or company picnics,” said Bill. “There is a need for outdoor venues. They are very popular.”

And guests can bring their own vendors and caterers.

Brenda gave a tour through the 1880s farmhouse tastefully decorated with period country furniture. Every room is inviting with beautiful views of the river.

The house has a large kitchen and a nice dining room. The downstairs bedroom is spacious with its own bathroom. The upstairs rooms are cozy and look comforting painted in green and blue.

Brenda baked her signature buttermilk coffee cake loved by kids and guests.

The rooms range in price from $95 to $135.

There’s plenty to do on the 109 acres of property with nearly one mile of scenic river frontage. The property is close to the North Country Trail. It is ideal for hiking, snowshoeing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, fishing and photography.

The River Edge name for the bed and breakfast was a natural fit.

“It’s such a peaceful and relaxing place,” she said, “a beautiful place for a couple to spend the night together.”

The hot tub room also has great views of the river bend and the grassy plateau.

Bill, a local builder, did an extensive remodel of the farmhouse including painting and new windows.

“It’s fun meeting new people,” said Brenda. “You never know who is coming until you meet them.”

The B&B will be open year round, and bookings for weddings next year are now available.

River Edge is located at 786 Flat River Drive in Lowell, MI. For reservations call 1-616-897-5928 or go to website at riveredgebnb.com
