Greenwich Meridian: Where East meets West
New autobiographical novel on its way to pre-order on Amazon. .

Emma Palova’s author news

With Christmas just around the corner and the shopping frenzy on, I am pleased to announce that I have completed the new autobiographical novel “Greenwich Meridian: Where East meets West during the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.) I have, however, decided to add two more chapters based on a recent conversation at one of my book signing events.
Vendor Mary Lacy asked me, if I was ever afraid living in a socialist country. I had to really think hard about the answer to the surprise question. So, it occurred to me that many of my fans will be interested in the same topic.
“What was it like living in socialism?”
I was born in socialist Czechoslovakia and lived there during the hardline years of communism in the 1970s and 1980s. Living in socialism meant being careful on a daily basis about what you said and to whom. However, only political activists like late president Vaclav Havel faced repercussions and ended up in jail. The system had its way of getting at you by creating “profiles.”
If you went to church, your profile would state that, and it went against you when you applied for jobs or to universities.
Please email me with your questions about socialism at emmapalova@yahoo.com

Reviews and a book tour

Why write a review?

All authors need reviews, and basically not just authors. But Amazon requests at least 25 reviews for authors to get any ranking, so then Amazon algorithms can start working in the author’s favor.

I haven’t been able to reach that magic number, even though it doesn’t seem high. Prior to publication, I sent out pdfs to reviewers.

And I will do that again with the new book. Just email me for pdfs.

Below is a link to my books from the Shifting Sands Short Stories collections: book 1 and book 2 Secrets. Books make a great Christmas gift.

You can also post a review there.

By Emma Palova
Traverse City, MI – It was a memorable Sunday afternoon in one of the busiest small towns in the Midwest. “I love mall events,” said a local customer. “We came here for the books. We’re all readers.” The Grand Traverse Mall event was organized by Dan McDougall of Bookbrokers & Kramer’s Cafe. “This is the event that everyone will be talking about afterwards,” said McDougall. “T his one’s a keeper! ”
The event was complete with bagpipers, storytellers and a superhero. Michigan authors represented all genres. Pictured below Ludington author Joan H. I enjoyed some author networking time with a writers’ group from the Upper Peninsula represented by managing editor Mikel B. Classen. “We don’t leave anyone out,” he said about the U.P. Reader magazine. I dropped off my new book “Secrets” from the Shifting Sands Short Stories series at the local bookstore Horizon Books on Front Street  in downtown. “We carry Michigan authors,” said owner Amy Reynolds. Book on tour

Festival of Pop Culture in Traverse City

Traverse City, MI – Bookbroker’s & Kramer’s Cafe is hosting the first annual Festival of Collectibles in the Grand Traverse Mall on July 28 from noon until 6 p.m. The event includes everything great about Movies , TV and Pop Culture paraphernalia – artists, photographers, crafters, collectors, authors, cos- play, sci- fi aficionados, special guests, and maybe even a superhero or two!

I will be joining this event at the Grand Traverse Mall located at 3200 West South Airport Rd. with my new book “Secrets” from the Shifting Sands Short Stories collection along with other Michigan authors.

Our new marketing strategy is a collaborative effort to support Michigan authors in multiple author events around the state. These events feature multiple genres like in a bookstore or at a library.

Michigan authors were represented at the Lakeshore Art Festival in Muskegon on July 5th and 6th and at BooksAlive in Ludington on July 19.

These events offer exposure to authors in different locations around the state of Michigan. The variety is infinite like the stars in the sky.

I will provide a full list of participating authors as soon as I can get it.

The ones I know of are:

Joan H. Young, Darla Jean Davis and Dan MacDougall. Stay tuned for more info about authors.

Directions to Books Alive author event in Ludington

The Ludington DDA has just sent a notice that people should not turn off Ludington Avenue at Harrison St, which is the way I suggested everyone come in to our location on Loomis Street. Because Loomis is one way east of Harrison, I’ve attached a little map with an alternate route. From US 10, turn S on Washington Ave (traffic light). Go 2 blocks to Filer St, turn R (west). Go to Harrison St and turn R (north) one block to Loomis.

Authors will be able to drive to your booth to unload, and will then need to park on a side street. If you attended last year, neither of the parking lots you may remember near the Arts Center are public any more, so think street parking!
Volunteers will need to help with directing this, and possibly moving traffic barriers. We are being cautioned to move the barriers back into place after every entry/exit!
See you tomorrow

Joan
